چکیده

TCP traffic has been reported to have not only self-similarity but multi-fractal nature. Multi-fractal nature of traffic volume, in general, is well known to have significant influence to queueing behavior in short time scale. In the paper, we investigate about ”what component of TCP congestion control mechanism affects to multifractal nature of generated traffic?”. We artificially divide TCP congestion control mechanism to several components and evaluate multi-fractal nature of generated traffic based on multi-fractal scaling analysis. Our simulation results show that Retransmission Time Out mechanism plays an important role for multi-fractal nature of TCP traffic.

Improvement of the mechanism of congestion avoidance in mobile networks

Mobile ad hoc network congestion control is a significant problem. Standard mechanism for congestion control (TCP), the ability to run certain features of a wireless network, several mutations are not common. In particular, the enormous changes in the network topology and the joint nature of the wireless network. It also creates significant challenges in mobile ad hoc networks (MANET), density ...

The Chaotic Nature of TCP Congestion Control

In this paper we demonstrate how TCP congestion control can show chaotic behavior. We demonstrate the major features of chaotic systems in TCP/IP networks with examples. These features include unpredictability, extreme sensitivity to initial conditions and odd periodicity. Previous work has shown the fractal nature of aggregate TCP/IP traffic and one explanation to this phenomenon was that traf...

On reducing the degree of second-order scaling in network traffic

While it is well known that second order scaling in network traffic can leads to larger queueing delays, higher drop rates and extended periods of congestion, reducing the scaling exponents has remained an open problem. In this paper we evaluate some techniques to reduce the degree of scaling in TCP traffic, specifically by reducing two related causes: (1) timeouts and exponential backoffs (2) ...

Performance analysis of TCP in an IP network using fluid-flow models

There is a strong demand for Quality of Service (QoS) in the internet. One key element of QoS is traffic management during congestion. Congestion occurs when aggregate load exceeds the capacity on bottleneck link. In this paper, congestion is caused by heterogeneous traffic. A queue builds up in the router servicing the bottleneck link. We advocate RED (random early detection) as AQM (active qu...

TCP Congestion Control Comparison

This paper investigates the effects that different TCP variants have on each other. The TCP variants differ in the congestion control algorithms they employ. The congestion control algorithms determine how much network traffic is generated by TCP at any one time, and aims to prevent a TCP connection from over utilising the network. We investigate the different congestion control algorithms that...
